Systems Integration - A History of Technology Solutions at Micro Media

Ted Roberts started integrating systems when he was a teenager. He got his first taste of systems integration when he would set up home stereo systems with whole house speaker systems. Before long Ted was asked by friends to help install car stereo systems with multi channel amplifiers and component speakers.

In 1982 Ted enlisted in the Air Force and got a technical electronics education in guided weapons systems such as the Sidewinder, Sparrow and Maverick missile systems. He continued with his systems experience with helping buddies hook up all the audio and video gear that they bought on base. VHS and CD's had just became available and gear was cheap in overseas base exchanges. He purchased a Panasonic 2 piece VHS camera and recorder system to shoot video on base and edit it together with graphics from a Commodore 64 computer.

Upon leaving the Air Force in 1986, Ted moved to the Greenville Spartanburg area. While living in Greer, he got a job with a Greenville based scale company and Installed and service mechanical and computerized weighing systems. He began to integrate these systems with factory controllers to automate weighing fuctions.

After a brief period of working with a computer service company, Ted accepted a job offer from a company in Greenville that was on the forefront of interactive video kiosk technology and computer graphics. He helped to engineeer and manufacture computer based imaging systems. In addition to interactive kiosk informations systems, one of these systems was used to show a before an after image of a client the was thinking of entering into a weight loss program.

Micro Media was founded in 1990 as a company specializing in providing the desktop publishing market with turnkey PC based solutions for type and imagesetting. Custom built computers combined with the then new Microsoft Windows operating system gave small to medium sized printers and desktop publishing houses a better and faster tool to produce print layouts and masters.

Micro Media then began integrating systems and solutions for the video production market. Video on computers was still in its infancy. The Fast Multimedia Video Machine was one of the first practical computer based A/B roll video editing systems based on a Windows PC. The Video Machine combined the ability to automate the control of two source video decks, real time timeline based effects and graphics and recording to a master recorder all on a user friendly graphical user interface. Fast Multimedia added the Digital Player Recorder (DPR) to the Video Machine system. This added non-linear editing capabilites to the system. This additional capability created the industries first "hybrid" desktop video editor, combining both linear and non-linear editing functions in the same system.

Since that time Micro Media continues to cover a wide range of technology and media related systems and services. In addition to Non linear editing systems we also perform sales and service of PC's, audio and video equipment, digital signage and home automation. Since we have the equipment and experience to use it, we also offer a wide range audio and video production services.
